Tortilleria Monterrey, a family-owned business, with three locations in the City will expand its operations into a 20,000 square foot facility located at 120 S. Vermillion Avenue. This expansion will provide the space needed to increase the supply of their current authentic Mexican product lines to HEB, Walmart, and other supermarket stores in the valley, and allow for the creation of new product lines with the health conscious in mind.

“This expansion will not only allow us to grow in our market, but also expand and consolidate other businesses that we have in the elaboration of cheese and salsas,” said Mr. Jose Frias, owner of Tortilleria Monterrey. “I want to thank the City of Brownsville, GBIC, and BCIC staff for their invaluable assistance in making this expansion a reality, especially Mrs. Constanza Miner, Retail and Redevelopment Manager, for the outstanding customer service and guidance throughout this process. It is the personalized treatment coupled with great opportunities that convinced me to invest in Brownsville and continue to do so in the future.”

Tortilleria Monterrey currently employs 50 dedicated workers and plans to add an additional 10 at the Vermillion location to meet the demands of their growth.

“Tortilleria Monterrey reinforces the trust companies have in Brownsville,” said Mayor Trey Mendez. “We’re very pleased that their new venture will continue to add to our community’s job market. Tortilleria Monterrey has a 20-year history of solid business practices, and choosing Brownsville, among other valley locations for this expansion, is one more example of the company’s ability to capitalize on existing and future opportunities.”
