Brownsville, TX - May 7, 2024 - Alamo Angels, a leading angel investment group, announced on Tuesday, May 7, the launch of its newest chapter in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) during the inaugural RGV Startup Week. This expansion represents a significant advance in consolidating investment opportunities throughout South Texas, strengthened by a strategic alliance with the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) and the eBridge Center for Business and Commercialization.

The launch event at the eBridge Center featured a special announcement by Sebastian Garzon, Executive Director of Alamo Angels, who emphasized the organization's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and growth in the RGV and beyond. "Access to capital is the reason we are all here today. That's what we do at Alamo Angels and what Brownsville and the rest of the Rio Grande Valley is getting because of our presence in this place," stated Garzon, adding, "We are excited to bring that to this community and make sure that when you as entrepreneurs get to that point, you will now have a door to come and knock and ask, 'How do I get to that point, and how do you help me achieve the goals that I have set for myself?"

Cori Peña, President and CEO of BCIC, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "This collaboration between BCIC and Alamo Angels will reinforce Brownsville’s position as the hub for entrepreneurship, driving economic development and long-term prosperity for the region. We are sincerely grateful and excited to be part of this initiative and we believe that their decision to establish their first expansion chapter underscores the immense potential and opportunities within our thriving community."

Nathan Burkhart, Director of Marketing and Small Business Development at BCIC, commented, "The establishment of Alamo Angels in Brownsville is a testament to the growing entrepreneurial spirit in the RGV. We are confident that this collaboration will attract more investors, mentors, and resources to support our local startups and help them scale their businesses."

Mayor of Brownsville John Cowen, in his remarks at the event, highlighted the significance of this partnership for the city of Brownsville. "Access to capital is the number one barrier for all entrepreneurs. The direct early investment focus of Alamo Angels combined with the resources and expertise provided at the eBridge Center, creates a more direct pathway of success for early-stage companies in our community," stated Mayor Cowen.

Alamo Angels' expansion in the RGV is part of a broader vision to harness the potential of the South Texas triangle, which encompasses vibrant communities like RGV, Corpus Christi, and Laredo. The organization recognizes the strategic positioning of Brownsville to lead efforts in regional integration and is actively exploring opportunities across the border where a growing ecosystem offers compelling business prospects.

The launch event also featured an exclusive dinner gathering investors from RGV and San Antonio and engaging discussions on the future of investment and innovation in South Texas and beyond. Alamo Angels' headquarters in the RGV will be situated at the eBridge Center for Business and Commercialization and will be supported by BCIC and the UTRGV Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center.
