WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) announced that the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) and the City of Brownsville will receive $900,000 in funds from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) for infrastructure renovations to the Casa del Nylon Building.
These federal funds will be used to create the eBridge: Center for Business and Commercialization in a designated Opportunity Zone in Brownsville, Texas. This structure will be the home of technology-based entrepreneurial ventures, which will create business development and promote economic growth to this region.
“This investment from EDA will provide the City of Brownsville with a great opportunity to strengthen economic development in South Texas,” said Rep. Vela. “I look forward to seeing the successful completion of this project, and I will continue to help local communities bring federal resources to the region.”
BCIC believes in the capacity of the human capital in our community. The eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization will mobilize the next generation of entrepreneurs and equip them with the skills and resources they need to create jobs, access capital, and scale commercially – all while remaining in our community.
“BCIC recognizes how entrepreneurship stimulates job growth, creates new opportunities in industries that need them, and makes communities better versions of themselves,” says Michael J. Limas, Chairman of the Board. “There is no clear path to entrepreneurship, but at BCIC we’re trying to change that.”
