PRESS RELEASE – Brownsville, TX – May 14, 2024 – The League of American Bicyclists has awarded the eBridge Center for Business and Commercialization a Bronze Bike Friendly Business (BFB) designation for its commitment to promoting bicycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transportation. Notably, Brownsville is the only city in Texas to have new businesses awarded BFB status in this round, with eBridge Center and the City of Brownsville both earning the distinction.

The eBridge Center joins a diverse group of 56 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses nationwide, all working together to create a more bicycle-friendly America. The center has implemented various initiatives to support and encourage bicycling among its employees, the organizations it houses, and the broader community.

Cori Peña, President & CEO of Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC), which is headquartered at eBridge, shared her thoughts on the recognition: "At BCIC, we strive to foster innovation and sustainability in all that we do. By embracing bicycling as a viable transportation option, eBridge is leading by example and demonstrating our commitment to the health and well-being of our workforce and the environment."

Linda Ufland, Director of Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Commercialization for UTRGV, an entrepreneurial support center also located at eBridge, echoed this sentiment: "Nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation goes hand-in-hand with creating a work environment that promotes healthy habits and sustainable practices. We're proud to be part of a community that values these principles and contributes to a more livable and vibrant city."

As a Bronze-level BFB, the eBridge Center is dedicated to continuing its efforts to enhance bicycling infrastructure, education, and encouragement programs. The center aims to create a more bicycle-friendly environment that benefits everyone in Brownsville by collaborating with local businesses, advocacy groups, and community members.
