Quality of Life Grants

The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Brownsville by investing in projects that contribute to our community's economic, cultural, and social well-being. The FY2025 Quality of Life Grant Program is designed to support local organizations, businesses, and initiatives that contribute to Brownsville's cultural, social, and recreational development. These grants aim to foster a sense of pride and community connection by improving public spaces, promoting sustainable growth, and supporting projects that strengthen the community’s vibrancy and inclusivity.

Purpose

The FY2025 Quality of Life Grant Program seeks to empower community-driven projects that align with BCIC’s mission of fostering equitable and innovative economic development. The program aims to provide financial support for initiatives that enhance Brownsville’s public amenities and spaces, cultural preservation, recreational facilities, and overall quality of life. By funding these projects, the program aims to create lasting impacts that improve the day-to-day experiences of residents, attract visitors, and contribute to the long-term socio-economic development of the city.

  8. Destination Retail and Entertainment
  9. Education and Skill Development

Eligibility Criteria

  • Projects must be within Brownsville, address program goals, and be accessible to the public.
  • Applicant Requirements: Must be an organization with at least two years of activity in Brownsville; individuals and churches do not qualify.
  • Project Readiness: Must be "shovel-ready" with plans, bids, and a clear project scope.

Application and Review Process

  • Applications are submitted through BCIC’s portal and reviewed for legal compliance.
  • The BCIC board evaluates applications based on impact, budget, project details, sustainability, and organizational strength, with points assigned in these categories.

Funding

Grant Coverage: BCIC covers 80% of project costs; applicants must match 20%, which can include funds, land use, or other grants (in-kind donations not included).

Grant Cycles: Cycle 1 runs from November 1, 2024, to January 15, 2025, with decisions made in February and March 2025. A second cycle may open if funding remains.
