The following editorial by BCIC's Vice President of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Nathan Burkhart, was originally published by Rio Grande Guardian

It all started with a conversation in the Fall of 2021 in Downtown Brownsville. COVID was nearing the end, construction on the eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization had just broken ground, and we were looking ahead at what the second phase of our journey in developing an open and inclusive ecosystem of entrepreneurship for Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley looked like.

While we have done so much these past five years at the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) with our partners at the UT-Rio Grande Valley Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center to build up our programming and resources at the eBridge Center, we were still missing crucial parts to make such an ecosystem a reality. Now, with the unveiling of a groundbreaking partnership between the BCIC and Alamo Angels, a pivotal piece of the puzzle falls into place.

Much love and many thanks to the board of directors at BCIC, Juan Sebastian Garzon and the board of directors at Alamo Angels, Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, the City of Brownsville commissioners, and all those who made this possible. At the heart of this alliance lies a profound commitment to nurturing innovation, fostering growth, and empowering aspiring entrepreneurs.

This will not be the last partnership you hear about. As the ever evolving mega region of the South Texas Triangle takes shape, organizations like ours in the RGV, the Alamo Angels, the Better Futures Institute, Geekdom and many more will continue to come together to foster collaboration, drive innovation, and unlock the full potential of our communities.

As the South Texas Triangle emerges as a powerhouse of economic growth and ingenuity, expect to see even more partnerships, initiatives, and breakthroughs that propel our region toward a brighter future.
